Description:
The Junior Database Administrator will monitor database availability, performance, and disk space usage to ensure optimal operation.
Responsibilities include assisting with database backup, recovery, and routine maintenance such as index rebuilding and updating statistics.
The role involves supporting database installation, patching, and updates as required.
The administrator will manage database users, roles, and permissions while ensuring security protocols are followed.
Troubleshooting and resolving access issues for users is a key responsibility.
The position requires monitoring database performance, generating reports, and identifying slow-running queries.
Analyzing performance metrics and escalating issues to senior DBAs when needed is expected.
The role supports data import/export operations and maintains database scripts, queries, and reports.
Validating data integrity and resolving minor inconsistencies is part of the job.
Maintaining documentation of database configurations and procedures is required.
Preparing reports for management and other teams using database data is essential.
Addressing support tickets, resolving basic database issues, and collaborating with developers on minor problems is part of the role.
Complex technical issues will need to be escalated to senior team members.
The administrator will learn new database technologies and best practices through training, workshops, and mentorship from senior DBAs.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 1-2 years of experience with Oracle Database.
A solid understanding of database concepts, including tables, schemas, indexes, primary/foreign keys, and normalization is required.
Familiarity with relational databases, particularly Oracle, and related management tools is necessary.
The ability to write basic SQL queries and perform data retrieval and manipulation is essential.
Experience with database performance monitoring tools and a basic understanding of database performance metrics such as CPU, memory, and disk I/O is required.
A basic understanding of database backup and recovery processes, along with familiarity with backup tools like RMAN for Oracle, is necessary.
Knowledge of operating systems (Linux, Windows) and the ability to execute basic shell commands and navigate file systems is required.
Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation and understanding of batch/cron jobs is preferred.
Knowledge of database security concepts, including user roles, permissions, data integrity, and encryption practices is essential.
