Remote Junior Software Developer (Backend)

Description:

• Zensurance, a scale-up InsurTech company, is seeking a Junior Software Developer (Backend) to join their Engineering team.
• The role is primarily backend-focused, with 90% of the work dedicated to backend development and 10% to frontend tasks.
• The Junior Software Developer will collaborate with the Core Team to build software for data collection, rating, and pricing engines using NodeJS and TypeScript.
• Responsibilities include designing and building scalable systems, writing clean code, testing features, and maintaining documentation.
• The position is remote-first within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Requirements:

• A university degree or college diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 1-2 years of experience in building web applications.
• Fullstack experience with NodeJS/AWS and the TypeScript ecosystem.
• Front-end experience with React.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks like Jest/Mocha, design patterns, and refactoring basics.
• Ability to debug simple issues and a passion for clean, reusable code.
