Description:

  • Canonical is seeking a Junior Software Developer with experience in Python and/or Go to join the Observability team.
  • The role involves developing a cloud-native monitoring stack that integrates top open-source monitoring tools.
  • The monitoring stack is designed to be opinionated, resilient, and scalable, providing deep insights for users and smooth operations for administrators.
  • The position is ideal for a software engineer who is passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability.
  • The monitoring stack will support applications across various cloud technologies, including Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, virtual machines, and containers.
  • Daily responsibilities include collaborating with a globally distributed team, writing and testing high-quality code, debugging issues, reviewing code from peers, and representing Canonical at conferences.
  • The role is fully remote, with the possibility of global travel for 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in Python is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in open source projects.
  • A working knowledge of Go is necessary.
  • Candidates should have interest and experience in at least two of the following areas: Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, and distributed systems.
  • A passion for technology and the ability to work well with others is essential, along with being self-motivated and thoughtful.
