Description:
As a Junior WordPress Developer, you will be a part of the WPCode team, responsible for building infrastructure to create new features, improve existing code, fix bugs, and assist in scaling the platform.
You will need to be a self-starter who takes initiative and sees tasks through from start to finish, owning features/tasks from scoping to development and testing.
Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English are essential to ensure effective collaboration and prevent any oversight.
Curiosity and a willingness to learn and enhance your skills are key traits for this role.
You will work on tasks that impact millions of users, leaving your mark on the web for all to see.
Quality and craftsmanship in your work are valued over just completing tasks.
Collaboration with other developers, receiving and providing feedback, and working on tasks of all sizes are part of the role.
Responsibilities include bug triaging, developing new features, refactoring legacy code, communicating with the team, and supporting customers with technical queries.
Requirements:
Experience in WordPress development, understanding its extensibility and how themes and plugins integrate.
Basic knowledge of PHP, MySQL, and how websites function in a WordPress environment.
Familiarity with JavaScript (vanilla JS, jQuery, ES6, etc).
Knowledge of package managers like Composer and NPM.
Proficiency in version control using git and GitHub.
Ability to quickly iterate and implement ideas.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to simplify complex ideas and features.
Previous experience in freelance or remote work.
Personal computer with internet access.
Availability for audio/video meetings between 9 am - 5 pm EST.
Bonus points if you also have:
Experience in customer support via email or text-based systems in English.
Familiarity with e-commerce platforms or related APIs (Easy Digital Downloads, WooCommerce, Stripe, PayPal, etc).
Experience in DevOps or infrastructure management.
