Description:
The Lead Database Consultant will provide complete support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure to a variety of clients.
Responsibilities include presales activities, delivery, consulting, and optimizing managed services for customers.
The role involves coordinating, analyzing, designing, implementing, and administering IT solutions, including database server configuration and maintenance.
The consultant will analyze client infrastructure and processes, recommending best practices for operational improvements to ensure maximum uptime and recoverability of databases.
Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans is required, along with proactive monitoring to prevent potential issues.
The consultant will oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration of corrupted databases, developing action plans and completing relevant client documentation.
The role includes developing and maintaining complex data architectures and carrying out data transformation and migration.
The consultant will manage problem management and incident management, ensuring adherence to technical processes and standards.
The consultant will prepare client status and incident reports, respond to client inquiries, and maintain alignment with client operating procedures.
Participation in pre-sales activities and mentoring of team members is expected, along with the preparation of training materials for the enhancement of Pythianβs knowledge base.
Availability for 24/7 escalations from the DBC team is required.
Requirements:
Knowledge and experience in installing, configuring, and upgrading PostgreSQL databases and relevant tools for PostgreSQL Administration are essential.
Experience administering PostgreSQL in virtualized and cloud environments, particularly AWS, GCP, or Azure, is required.
Proficiency in scripting (bash/python) and software development (C++, Java, Go) is necessary.
Familiarity with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, and SALT is required.
Previous remote working experience is a plus.
Strong debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot methodically are essential.
Excellent documentation skills are required.
Understanding of current IT service standards such as ITIL is a nice to have.
Hands-on experience in monitoring PostgreSQL databases using industry-standard tools is required.
Experience with cloud-native and managed database monitoring tools is necessary.
Experience in setting up, configuring, and administering PostgreSQL on Kubernetes is a nice to have.
Proficiency in High Availability (HA) solutions for PostgreSQL is required.
Experience with PostgreSQL backup tools and disaster recovery management is essential.
Experience in database migrations from different database engines to PostgreSQL is required.
Experience analyzing and optimizing schema conversions and performance tuning post-migration is beneficial.
