Remote Lead Database Engineer

• TherapyNotes is seeking a Lead Database Engineer who excels at mentoring and team collaboration.
• The role involves inspiring and guiding a team of database professionals while cultivating a collaborative environment that values innovation and continuous improvement.
• The Lead Database Engineer will own the sprint process and coordinate with cross-functional teams, including developers, operations, and infrastructure, to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.
• Responsibilities include leading a team that designs, implements, and maintains high-availability, high throughput, data and compute intensive, critical database systems running PostgreSQL for a 24x7 SaaS platform.
• The position requires participation in project planning and sprint ceremonies to deliver database solutions in an Agile environment, monitoring project activities, and addressing blockers to avoid delays.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.
• The Lead Database Engineer will partner with other technical leaders to ensure newly introduced systems are supportable and maintainable.
• The role includes providing escalated technical guidance and support to other technology teams and on-call coverage for production support as needed.
• Compliance with HIPAA security policies within the database platform is required, along with adherence to security and operating policies established by the organization.
• The position involves automating system maintenance tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible, and managing infrastructure as code (IaC) by writing Ansible playbooks, with some exposure to Terraform being a plus.
• Experience with writing and designing ETL pipelines using Python is a plus, as well as understanding and maintaining various PostgreSQL ecosystem components like PgBouncer, PgBackrest, HaProxy, and RepMgr.

Requirements:

• A BS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience is required.
• Candidates must have 10+ years of Engineering experience with Database Engineering, Systems Engineering, DevOps, and/or SRE.
• A minimum of 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers specializing in database systems and SaaS platforms is preferred.
• Experience in cloud-based compute, storage, and containerization solutions, particularly Azure and Kubernetes, is required.
• Candidates should be experts in Agile methodology, DevOps, Scrum, ITSM, and/or ITIL principles.
• Proficiency with operating PostgreSQL in a Linux environment is a plus.
