Description:

  • The Lead Front End Engineer will work remotely from anywhere in the USA and must be legally authorized to work in the US, as Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.
  • This role involves joining cross-functional delivery teams to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ web and mobile modernization initiative.
  • The engineer will help rebuild and improve digital health tools for millions of Veterans and caregivers, focusing on front-end development for VA.gov’s health portal and the VA Health & Benefits mobile application.
  • Responsibilities include building responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces using React and TypeScript, collaborating with various stakeholders in an Agile environment, and implementing UI components that integrate with APIs.
  • The engineer will ensure products meet accessibility standards, participate in code reviews, and mentor team members on best practices.
  • This is a full-time position contingent on contract award, with a performance period of up to one year and the possibility of two one-year extensions.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js is essential.
  • Experience with server-side frameworks like Express.js or NextJS, and understanding of database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB) is necessary.
  • Familiarity with API development (REST, GraphQL) and authentication methods (OAuth, JWT, SAML) is required.
  • Knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is important.
  • A commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code is expected.
  • Experience with federal web accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA) is required.
  • Candidates must have a user-centered mindset, problem-solving skills, and strong collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Adaptability and attention to detail are crucial, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
