Description:
The Lead Front End Engineer will work remotely from anywhere in the USA and must be legally authorized to work in the US, as Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.
This role involves joining cross-functional delivery teams to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ web and mobile modernization initiative.
The engineer will help rebuild and improve digital health tools for millions of Veterans and caregivers, focusing on front-end development for VA.gov’s health portal and the VA Health & Benefits mobile application.
Responsibilities include building responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces using React and TypeScript, collaborating with various stakeholders in an Agile environment, and implementing UI components that integrate with APIs.
The engineer will ensure products meet accessibility standards, participate in code reviews, and mentor team members on best practices.
This is a full-time position contingent on contract award, with a performance period of up to one year and the possibility of two one-year extensions.

Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js is essential.
Experience with server-side frameworks like Express.js or NextJS, and understanding of database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB) is necessary.
Familiarity with API development (REST, GraphQL) and authentication methods (OAuth, JWT, SAML) is required.
Knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is important.
A commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code is expected.
Experience with federal web accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA) is required.
Candidates must have a user-centered mindset, problem-solving skills, and strong collaboration and communication abilities.
Adaptability and attention to detail are crucial, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

The position offers a salary range of $130,000 - $140,000 a year.
