Description:
Brightspeed is seeking a Lead Operations Engineer to join the Network Operations SS7 Tier III Engineering team.
The Lead Operations Engineer will take ownership and accountability in areas of recognized technical expertise, providing technical leadership, guidance, and assistance across different segments.
This role will act as the subject matter expert for SS7, offering real-time technical knowledge transfer, training, and escalation support to Network Operations, Service Assurance, Central Office, and Field Technicians.
Responsibilities include high-level trouble identification and resolution for unique, complex, or chronic network problems, including hardware, software, design, or provisioning issues in the Brightspeed SS7 network.
The position involves proactively leading significant outages and technical issues, effectively identifying and resolving problems related to service assurance, network reliability, and customer satisfaction.
The Lead Operations Engineer will develop, review, and issue documentation such as Methods of Procedures (MOP), Technical Job Aids, Vendor Manuals, and Standard Configurations using tools like SharePoint, Teams, and Microsoft Office.
Frequent communication with vendors, internal Brightspeed workgroups, and local and interexchange carriers is required.
The role will also provide feedback and guidance for training targeted at NOC technicians and other Brightspeed workgroups as new technologies are introduced.
The candidate must be able to support Network Operations in a 24/7, 365-day environment.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in an SS7 Engineering or Tier III/IV Network Operations environment.
The ideal candidate should be a subject matter expert on Oracle/Tekelec Eagle STPs and Ericsson SCPs hardware and configuration, with knowledge of Eagle software loads 42 and newer.
Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting low-speed link issues at the DS0 and DS1 level is required.
A high level of expertise with channel banks, DSU, CSU, OCU, and DS0DP is necessary.
Knowledge of LSMS and LNP is essential.
Candidates should have experience with SS7 routing and messaging, including ISUP, CNAM, and LIDB.
Experience with rehoming links and collapsing STPs is preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required, along with a proven track record of working in a dynamic team environment.
Experience in remotely mentoring, training, or coaching NOC or Field Service employees is necessary.
The ability to solve complex challenges, independently analyze information, and make recommendations based on analysis is essential.
Bonus points for candidates with SIGTRAN experience, familiarity with Oracle OCPIC, circuit emulation for SS7, scripting or automation of triage for SS7 alarms, NMA/RFM experience, and experience working with DMS 100/10, DCO, GTD5, EWSD, and 5ESS switches.
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Networking, or Computer Programming is preferred.
