Gorilla is seeking a Lead/Staff Data Platform Engineer for a contract role lasting 3–6 months, focused on enhancing the data infrastructure for energy companies aiming for net-zero.
The role involves applying technical expertise to improve the internal data platform, enhancing developer experience, observability, and reliability.
Responsibilities include leading high-priority engineering initiatives, designing and implementing platform services for large-scale energy data, and collaborating with various stakeholders to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
The engineer will support operational excellence through observability, automation, and incident response best practices, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code optimization.
The position also requires providing architectural guidance, mentoring engineers, documenting changes, and ensuring a smooth transition to the permanent team at the end of the contract.
Requirements:
Candidates must be able to quickly ramp up and deliver high-impact results within a short timeframe.
Strong Python skills and a solid understanding of software engineering principles are essential.
Applicants should have deep experience in designing and building data platforms or internal platform infrastructure at scale in production environments.
Expertise in AWS, particularly with services like Lambda, ECS/EC2, S3, and RDS, is required.
Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices is necessary.
Familiarity with tools such as Airflow, DBT, and cloud data platforms like Snowflake or Databricks is expected.
A good understanding of CI/CD, observability, and platform reliability practices in cloud-native environments is important.
Experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes in production settings is required.
Candidates should possess a good understanding of distributed systems, data governance, and security in regulated or high-compliance contexts.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset are essential for aligning stakeholders around technical goals.
A willingness to lead by example, model best practices, and coach others is necessary.
Benefits:
This contract position offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact on a critical data platform during a significant scaling phase.
The role provides a chance to work with modern tooling and technologies in a remote work environment.
Engineers will have the opportunity to mentor and guide other team members, enhancing their leadership skills.
The position allows for collaboration with diverse teams, fostering a culture of innovation and product development.
There is potential for future opportunities within the company after the contract period, depending on performance and business needs.
