Description:

  • The Machine Learning Engineer II at Mapbox will be part of the team working on MapGPT, an advanced in-car assistant powered by location intelligence.
  • Responsibilities include evaluating and implementing models for cloud-based and on-device applications to enhance MapGPT's natural language understanding.
  • The role involves integrating models into MapGPT, developing ML-based recommendation systems, and contributing to the improvement of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-to-Speech (TTS) systems.
  • The engineer will help design and manage the MLOps pipeline for training, evaluating, and deploying models for different use cases and collaborate with other teams to align machine learning features with user needs and industry standards.
  • Staying updated with NLP and ML research to enhance team capabilities and product user experience is a key aspect of the role.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of industry engineering experience and 3+ years of professional experience in machine learning, focusing on NLP and transformer models.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, experience with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and proficiency in MLOps and deploying ML models on AWS.
  • Ability to translate ML capabilities into tangible product features, practical problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Enthusiasm for staying current with evolving ML technologies, rapid prototyping, and refining models based on real-world feedback.
  • Nice to have traits include experience with speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) systems, as well as low-latency ML model development.
