Description:
Artera is an AI startup focused on developing medical artificial intelligence tests to personalize therapy for cancer patients.
The Machine Learning Performance Engineer will work on the AI Platform team with an emphasis on computational performance.
The role involves collaboration with AI model developers, machine learning engineers, and the platform engineering team.
Responsibilities include building and owning tools and libraries to accelerate the development, launch, and monitoring of AI products.
The engineer will optimize GPU and CPU efficiency and data throughput for large-scale foundation models and downstream model training runs.
The position requires optimizing the storage of terabytes of digital pathology data for large-scale training regimes.
The engineer will ensure that the observability infrastructure provides insights for ongoing performance optimization across the model landscape.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 5+ years of industry software engineering experience.
A minimum of 3+ years of experience using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX in Python is required.
Candidates should have at least 2+ years of experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
A minimum of 1+ year of experience optimizing large-scale, high data-throughput, distributed machine learning training pipelines is necessary.
Desired qualifications include experience with Terraform and SqlAlchemy.
Familiarity with ML orchestration frameworks such as Ray, Kubeflow, Metaflow, MLFlow, Flyte, Dagster, Argo Workflow, or Prefect is preferred.
Experience in deploying and maintaining infrastructure for machine learning training and production inference is also desired.
Knowledge of TorchScript, ONNXRuntime, DeepSpeed, AWS Neuron, or similar inference optimization approaches is a plus.

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $140,000 to $200,000 a year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
