Description:
The Network Operations Engineer role is a fixed-term, remote position based in Canada, reporting to the Network Operations Engineering Manager.
The primary responsibilities include network operations and maintenance, as well as providing level 3 support for services relied upon by Megaport customers.
The successful applicant will collaborate with existing engineering teams to build and maintain a highly scalable, reliable, and resilient network, focusing on automation and elastic services for customers on demand.
Key tasks include operations and maintenance of Megaport’s next-generation network, major network and Level 3 customer incident fault resolution, and network capacity management activities.
The role requires documenting all work in Megaport’s OSS/BSS systems and ensuring appropriate monitoring is implemented for network equipment.
The engineer will maintain technical relationships with vendors and internal engineering teams, provide escalation support for various business units, and deliver technical summaries of technical work.
Responsibilities also include evaluating, testing, and certifying new network hardware, systems, and software, as well as developing and delivering training to Network Operations staff.
The engineer will work with Engineering on network enhancement projects.
Requirements:
Candidates must be passionate about technology and using it to solve problems.
A strong work ethic and a willingness to continuously improve oneself are essential.
A focus on end-user experience is required, with a commitment to ensuring users get the most from their services.
Proven experience in network incident resolution, incident mitigation, deployment, and maintenance is necessary.
Candidates should have production experience in ISIS, BGP, MPLS Traffic Engineering, and MPLS L2/L3 VPN.
Experience with Juniper and Cisco hardware platforms is required.
Candidates must have experience managing network hardware installations and single-mode fiber optics patching at third-party data centers.
Proficiency in Linux OS and coding experience in Perl or Python will be highly regarded.
Candidates should be proactive, self-motivated, organized, and possess strong attention to detail.
Exceptional time management skills and the ability to take initiative in a rapidly changing environment are necessary.
The ability to work autonomously as well as in remote teams is required.
