Description:

  • As an Optimization Engineer at Hardsuit Labs, you will be a part of the Engineering Team, collaborating closely with Engineers, Designers, Artists, and Producers.
  • Your primary responsibilities will include designing and implementing extensions to existing systems and developing new systems that support both internal content creators and external development partners.
  • You will design, author, and maintain robust and highly optimized systems that meet all design, technical, and schedule requirements.
  • You will diagnose code paths that consume excessive resources using performance analysis tools and optimize them accordingly.
  • Collaboration with QA and technical leadership will be essential to ensure system stability and resolve defects.
  • You will author, review, and provide feedback on technical and end-user documentation.
  • Working with technical leads and fellow engineers on overall system architecture and design will be part of your role.
  • You will take initiative on medium-impact tasks and work independently on low-risk items.
  • Supporting junior staff with informal guidance and mentorship will be expected.
  • You will assist team members in setting up tools and troubleshooting minor tools issues and workflow blockers.

Requirements:

  • You must have 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) in a professional setting is required.
  • Proven experience in working on gameplay systems and optimizing lower-level systems such as Audio, Animation, and Collision is necessary.
  • Strong C++ skills with a deep understanding of performance considerations are essential.
  • You should demonstrate the ability to create meaningful CPU performance gains, including modifying core Unreal Engine code when necessary.
  • Comfort in navigating large codebases and unfamiliar systems is required.
  • You must be skilled at identifying and implementing optimization strategies across disciplines.
  • The ability to scope medium-sized tasks and break down larger efforts into actionable steps is important.
  • Strong debugging skills and attention to detail are necessary.
  • Familiarity with established coding standards and best practices is required.
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent cross-discipline communication skills is essential.
  • You should be open to feedback and iteration in a team environment.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D math is required.
  • It is a plus if you have AAA game development experience, console development experience, or have shipped at least one title.
