Description:
Ventrata is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join their growing team in Brno, Czech Republic.
This is the first dedicated database administrator role, and the DBA will play a key part in shaping the database strategy as the company scales.
The DBA will work closely with two infrastructure engineers and have the opportunity to influence the future architecture of the data systems.
The current PostgreSQL database is hosted in Google Cloud and needs optimization to support business growth.
Responsibilities include taking ownership of PostgreSQL databases, optimizing existing architecture and queries, and resolving performance bottlenecks.
The DBA will collaborate with infrastructure engineers to ensure smooth integration with the company’s infrastructure as code (IaC) environment.
The role involves designing and implementing database data export automations and developing strategies for scaling the database.
The DBA will suggest and implement efficient strategies for connection pooling and work with engineering teams on database design and SQL query optimization.
Additional duties include creating tooling for archiving old data.
Requirements:
Candidates must have previous experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, particularly with large-scale databases (2TB+).
Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, including performance tuning, query optimization, and replication is required.
Hands-on experience with databases hosted in major cloud providers is essential.
A proven track record of designing scalable, highly available database architectures is necessary.
Strong understanding of security best practices and regulatory compliance (GDPR, SOC2, etc.) is required.
Experience with performance monitoring tools like pganalyze and query analysis is needed.
Familiarity with database versioning and DevOps principles is important.
Candidates should have experience collaborating with engineering and infrastructure teams to improve database design and performance.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Nice to have: Hands-on experience with databases hosted in Google Cloud (GCP), including Cloud SQL and relevant services.
