Description:
As a PostgreSQL Database Consultant (DBC), you will work as part of Pythian's open source team, providing complete support for all aspects of database and application infrastructure to a variety of customers.
You will collaborate with team members to solve complex puzzles and develop innovative solutions for customers.
The role involves working closely with customer teams to understand their needs in both project-based and long-term support capacities.
You will create and document database standards, optimize queries, indexes, and data structures.
Monitoring and supporting database environments will be part of your responsibilities, serving as an escalation point for complex troubleshooting and interactive production support.
You will utilize database vendor-provided tools and Pythian-developed accelerators to performance tune various database systems, specific queries, and application scenarios.
Diagnosing and addressing database performance issues using performance monitors and various tuning techniques will be required.
You will identify areas of opportunity and recommend appropriate improvement suggestions.
Cross-functional training in NoSQL, Site Reliability Engineering, and DevOps methodologies is encouraged.
When not troubleshooting, you will author new blog posts for the open-source community, create articles for the customer-facing knowledge base, and host webinars, as well as participate in conferences and meetups to promote Pythian.
Requirements:
You should have knowledge and experience in installing, configuring, and upgrading PostgreSQL and MySQL databases and tools relevant to PostgreSQL Administration.
Experience administering PostgreSQL and MySQL in virtualized and cloud environments, especially AWS, GCP, or Azure, is required.
Proficiency in scripting (bash/python) and software development (C++, Java, Go) is necessary.
Familiarity with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, and SALT is expected.
Previous remote working experience is a plus.
You must possess debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot methodically, identifying and applying fixes for known errors, and thinking outside the box to resolve complex issues.
Very good documentation skills are essential.
Nice to haves include an understanding of current IT service standards such as ITIL and being a contributor to Open Source projects relevant to PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other database or infrastructure software.
