Description:

  • We are looking for an experienced Principal AI Programmer to join our dynamic team.
  • You will play a critical role in developing innovative AI systems essential to our gameplay experiences within Virtual Reality.
  • The position is ideal for someone passionate about AI in games, who thrives in collaborative, creative environments, and is keen to push the boundaries of what is possible with VR.
  • In this role, you will implement and develop Game AI systems tailored to VR environments.
  • You will collaborate with designers and engineers to craft intelligent NPCs and reactive game worlds.
  • Your responsibilities include optimizing AI for performance, ensuring seamless gameplay in VR, researching emerging AI and VR technologies, and mentoring junior team members.
  • This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week) that is fully remote within the UK.
  • The salary is competitive and dependent on experience.
  • Key responsibilities include taking ownership of AI systems, developing perception and planning systems for NPCs, ensuring AI systems are robust and maintainable, and guiding design teams in creating AI-driven experiences.

Requirements:

  • You must have 5+ years of professional AI programming experience, with at least one shipped title on a current-generation console, PC, VR headset, or mobile.
  • A thorough knowledge of C++ including high-performance programming and good 3D maths skills is required.
  • You should have a thorough understanding of underlying AI systems including state machines, behaviour trees, and perception/navigation systems.
  • Experience delivering compelling AI combat with believable navigation and tactical enemy squad coordination is essential.
  • You must have shipped game title(s) with engaging AI behaviour using a modern game engine.
  • A passion for collaborating with level design, animation, and other disciplines is necessary.
  • Strong English communication skills with a focus on positive teamwork and the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical staff are required.
  • You should be a committed team player, recognizing the importance of people within a technology environment.
  • The nice to haves include professional experience in VR game development, developing AI using Unreal 4 or 5, and prior experience with Perforce and Visual Studio.
