Description:

  • Merlin Labs is seeking a Principal Autonomy Software Engineer to lead the Advanced Capabilities Team in developing software for autonomous systems in transportation.
  • The role involves designing, building, and integrating autonomy capabilities for aircraft to reduce pilot workload, enable cargo aircraft to fly without a human pilot, support automated mission planning, and ensure safe execution of contingency procedures.
  • The engineer will collaborate with the R&D software engineering manager, contribute to concept of operations design, lead architecture design, and work closely with the software team throughout the development cycle.
  • Responsibilities include making key decisions on system architecture, design, software implementation, and mentoring the team.
  • The engineer will collaborate across Merlin to develop innovative solutions for aviation and autonomy challenges.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of experience developing software for physical systems like aircraft, robotics, or medical devices.
  • Expertise in perception, reasoning, decision making, planning, and control.
  • Familiarity with areas such as perception, reasoning, motion planning, human-machine interaction, system reliability, state estimation, and control.
  • Proficiency in robotics middleware software like ROS/2, Linux, and open-source development tools.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers, modern software development practices, and writing Python and C++.
  • Familiarity with simulation software, ML frameworks, sensor fusion algorithms, and machine learning-based perception and planning algorithms is a plus.
