Description:
The Principal Backend Engineer will be responsible for supporting and leading the technical direction of the Alloy project, driving business conversations on data ingestion strategy at Grafana Labs.
They will actively participate in the OpenTelemetry collector SIG and maintain the Prometheus exporters included in Alloy.
The role involves being visible within the Prometheus and OpenTelemetry ecosystem, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and engaging with community events like KubeCon.
The engineer will collaborate with GTM to engage with prospects and customers, drive cross-department programs, and participate in on-call rotations for operational improvements.
Communication skills, passion for observability, customer engagement, open-source experience, and mentorship are key aspects of the role.
Requirements:
Ability to take ownership and drive technical and business conversations on a director-level scope.
Passion for observability, willingness to engage with customers, and excellent communication skills.
Relevant open-source experience, ideally in OpenTelemetry or Prometheus.
Active participation in the OpenTelemetry community and understanding of production environments.
Experience in operating production infrastructure, organizing on-call, and mentoring team members.

Base compensation range in the United States: USD 196,627 - USD 235,000, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
