Description:

Flatfile is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer with expertise in Node.js to join their team in a fully remote capacity.
This role is crucial as it sits at the intersection of various initiatives at Flatfile, including leveraging AI for data transformation and optimizing the performance of their data engine.
The position involves designing and building backend services for a scaling data exchange platform.
Responsibilities include providing leadership and guidance on architecture and system designs, enhancing complex data structures for enterprise use cases, and owning feature delivery from design to operation.
The engineer will implement strategies to minimize data mapping errors, improve data accuracy, and establish performance benchmarks.
The role also includes improving usability through refined micro-interactions and developing AI-powered features.
The engineer will share responsibility for responding to critical incidents and contribute to new AI models in partnership with the Applied AI team.
The tech stack includes Node (Nest.js), Prisma, Postgres, Git, and Flatfile’s homegrown data engine.

Requirements:

Candidates should have 10+ years of experience in a production environment with significant contributions to the design, architecture, and optimization of distributed systems.
Expertise in backend technologies, specifically Node, Postgres, and Redis, is required.
A demonstrated capability to innovate and optimize at the system level is essential.
Candidates must have led all phases of software development, including ideation, product specification, prototyping, designing, and implementation.
A proven track record of raising technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence is necessary.
Applicants should be comfortable owning decisions on technical problems and engaging in debates about product futures.
Experience in a fast-paced environment is crucial, as the company moves quickly and priorities may change rapidly.
