Remote Principal Cloud Engineer EMEA

Description:

• Human Made is looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer for a remote position, requiring candidates to be based between UTC and UTC+5:30.
• The role involves building and operating the cloud hosting platform for Altis Cloud, which handles tens of billions of page requests annually.
• The Principal Cloud Engineer will collaborate with the Product team, including other Product and Cloud Engineers, to support client and developer requests related to cloud infrastructure for various projects and environments.
• The Altis Cloud platform is a containerised LEMP platform running on Amazon Web Services, and familiarity with PHP-based applications is essential.
• Candidates should understand scaling considerations, security best practices, caching, and performance issues, with knowledge of WordPress best practices being advantageous.
• Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation for infrastructure management is required, along with a solid understanding of AWS and scaling LEMP-based systems.
• Some experience with containerised platforms like Docker and ECS, as well as Linux system administration, is beneficial but can be learned on the job.
• The Principal Cloud Engineer will be on-call during UK working hours for site availability issues, with rare out-of-hours support required.
• Strong communication skills are necessary for providing client support during outages or maintenance issues.
• The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a remote team, with good prioritization skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Candidates should be prepared to learn new technologies and frameworks outside their comfort zone and maintain a can-do attitude towards technical challenges.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have experience with Amazon Web Services, particularly services related to high-availability web infrastructure, including EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, ALB, S3, Lambda, VPC, CloudFront, Security Groups, IAM, ASG, and ECS.
• Comfort with working from a Linux command-line is essential.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are required.
• Candidates should be comfortable with version control systems and corresponding workflows.
• Experience with orchestration tools and contributing to existing infrastructure-as-code, especially Terraform and CloudFormation, is necessary.
• The ability to automate tasks is required.
• Experience with running WordPress or comparable LEMP-based applications at scale is essential.
