Description:

  • The Principal Data Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of MeridianLink's data products.
  • This role involves designing, building, implementing, and maintaining data processing pipelines for the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources.
  • The Principal Data Engineer will develop robust and scalable solutions that transform data into a useful format for analysis, enhance data flow, and enable end-users to consume and analyze data more efficiently.
  • The position requires writing complex SQL queries to support analytics needs.
  • Responsibilities include leading the writing of complex SQL queries, developing technical tools that leverage AI, machine learning, and big-data techniques, and maintaining data structures and integrity on an automated basis.
  • The role involves evaluating and recommending tools and technologies for data infrastructure and processing, collaborating with various stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and coded data pipelines.
  • The position requires working with tools, languages, data processing frameworks, and databases such as R, Python, SQL, Databricks, Spark, Delta, and APIs, as well as structured and unstructured data from data lakes, relational database management systems, and data warehouses.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required.
  • The candidate should have 6-8 years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on financial systems on SaaS platforms.
  • Deep expertise in Python, SQL, and distributed processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery is essential.
  • Proven experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferably AWS or Azure, is required.
  • Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt) and data warehouses (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) is necessary.
  • A strong understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance within a financial services context is required.
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data (e.g., Delta, JSON, Parquet, Avro) at scale is essential.
  • Familiarity with modeling datasets in Salesforce, Netsuite, and Anaplan to solve business use cases is required.
  • Previous experience democratizing data at scale for the enterprise is a significant plus.
  • The candidate should possess the ability to assess unusual circumstances and use sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques to identify causes.
