  • The Principal Engineer role focuses on shaping the next generation of intelligent search systems, defining architectural strategy, and leading transformative initiatives.
  • The position involves working at scale on search platforms infused with machine learning and semantic intelligence.
  • Responsibilities include leading the architecture and evolution of scalable, high-performance search backend systems, driving cross-functional initiatives to integrate modern search technologies, and defining strategies to enhance performance, reliability, and observability of search services.
  • The role also includes designing frameworks for evaluating search quality, championing engineering best practices, mentoring engineers, and shaping long-term technical direction by staying ahead of trends in AI, ML, distributed systems, and search technologies.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related technical field is required.
  • Candidates must have 8+ years of experience designing and leading the development of large-scale distributed backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience with search infrastructure or recommendation engines is a strong advantage.
  • Deep familiarity with technologies such as Apache Beam, Pub/Sub, Redis, and other large-scale data processing frameworks is necessary.
  • Expertise in backend development with JavaScript/Node.js and Python is required; knowledge of Scala or Golang is a plus.
  • Proficiency with ElasticSearch and similar search platforms, as well as both SQL and NoSQL databases, is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in building robust APIs (REST, GraphQL) and operating in modern cloud environments (GCP, AWS) using Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and observability tools is required.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence engineering direction across teams and functions is necessary.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to align diverse technical stakeholders around a cohesive vision are essential.
