Shield AI is a venture-backed defense technology company founded in 2015, focused on protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems.
The Special Projects team is an elite group within the office of the CTO, consisting of highly experienced software engineering experts from diverse fields.
This team steers technology development towards strategic alignment with the CTO’s vision and makes contributions to Hivemind, Shield AI’s software ecosystem.
Hivemind includes three products: Hivemind Edge, Hivemind Design, and Hivemind Commander, each with specific functionalities and technologies.
The team operates effectively within ambiguity and impacts the development of foundational Hivemind products.
As a Principal Full-stack Software Engineer, you will architect and build next-generation AI interfaces for seamless human-AI interaction.
Your work will involve creating real-time experiences that handle multiple input types and implementing streaming interfaces for continuous feedback.
You will collaborate closely with ML engineers and focus on frontend architecture to enhance user interaction with AI systems.

Requirements:

You must have 15+ years of experience developing large, production-quality software systems.
A strong grasp of software development and coding principles with high productivity in mainstream languages (e.g., Typescript, C++, Go, Python) is required.
You should have 5+ years of experience with React, Node, Typescript, and Material UI.
A solid knowledge of modern software engineering best practices is essential.
Experience with Git and code management tools is necessary.
You should be passionate about developing high-quality and optimized software solutions.
Good software hygiene regarding code documentation, unit testing, and bug tracking is expected.
Strong technical collaboration skills and a desire to develop new skills are important.
You should be excited by a fast-moving environment with a highly motivated group.
A BS/MS in Computer Science or a similar degree, or equivalent practical experience is required.
A demonstrated record of hard work, trustworthiness, high standards, and kindness is essential.
You must possess fluid intelligence to operate effectively in ambiguous conditions and drive technical efforts.

The salary range for this position is $174,200 - $312,540 a year, with additional bonuses and benefits.
Regular employee positions include salary, bonus, benefits, and equity.
Temporary employee positions offer hourly pay and a temporary benefits package after 60 days of employment.
International positions may include additional compensation such as premium, hardship differential, cost of living differential, and relocation assistance.
