The Navigation team develops and operates web services for Mapbox’s navigation initiatives across consumer, automotive, and logistics sectors.
The role involves leading technical excellence and innovation for the Navigation product portfolio, including Logistics API, Directions API, EV Routing, Routing, Guidance, and Telemetry.
The Principal Software Development Engineer will define the technical vision for Navigation products and align initiatives with broader organizational goals.
Responsibilities include developing the roadmap, shaping the vision, promoting collaboration, proactively innovating, and advocating for customers.
The position requires a seasoned leader with expertise in distributed systems and a passion for customer experience.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 15+ years of engineering experience with a strong track record in the field.
Extensive coding experience in languages such as C/C++, Python, Javascript, and Typescript is required, along with knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
Proficiency in cloud database services like AWS RDS, Google Cloud Spanner, and Azure SQL is essential.
A strong commitment to operational excellence and a culture of quality and continuous improvement is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate ownership and execution capabilities, leading globally distributed engineering teams with empathy.
A customer-focused mindset and a growth mindset are important traits for this role.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to convey complex ideas effectively.

While not required, prior experience in Maps and/or Navigation and an advanced degree in a related field are considered valuable.

Mapbox offers a competitive annual base compensation ranging from $212,075 to $286,925, with potential increases for high-cost labor locations.
