Description:

Vanta's mission is to secure the internet and protect consumer data by enabling companies to practice better security and prove it with ease.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will identify key engineering-wide, org-level strategic technical initiatives and set the tone for overall engineering excellence and culture.
This role focuses on the Platform group, working across 6+ different teams to enable engineering at Vanta through shared product services, frontend components, design systems, shared backend infrastructure, internal developer tooling, and other cross-cutting projects.
You will identify and solve complex, high-impact problems, leading projects with multiple cross-functional stakeholders, engineering leaders, and engineers to deliver significant impact to the business.
You will set technical direction impacting the entire engineering team, ensuring high quality across engineering.
Responsibilities include designing, developing, and owning new product functionality and infrastructure using modern frameworks and tooling such as TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
You will tackle deeply ambiguous problem areas and address larger long-term challenges for the company.
As a cultural beacon, you will set an example for effective, collaborative engineering and mentor junior team members.
You will make effective tradeoffs considering business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.

Requirements:

You must have played significant technical leadership roles for larger organizations and complex projects.
A good balance of customer focus, bias for action, and the ability to balance long-term, medium-term, and short-term decisions is required.
Experience communicating with and working closely with a large set of cross-functional stakeholders is essential.
You should have experience in upleveling teams of engineers, mentoring, and leading by example.
A self-starter attitude with a mix of previous startup experience and working at scale in a bias-for-action environment is necessary.
You should have experience building architectural changes with a multi-year impact or deep expertise in technology.
An interest in learning about security or prior experience in the security space is preferred.
Experience working at rapidly scaling startups and large companies, especially in environments that prioritize a bias for action, is required.
