Description:
Apollo is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to work remotely from the United States or Canada.
The role involves being a technical leader who shapes the engineering culture and advises senior and executive leadership on products and systems that power GraphOS.
The engineer will create solutions that deliver direct impact for customers and drive business growth while balancing current technical requirements with long-term architectural vision.
Responsibilities include proposing ideas that create business value, developing resilient systems, leading technical forums, and guiding strategic architectural decisions.
The engineer will ensure operational excellence across GraphOS systems, develop technical plans, and collaborate with engineering management to build maintainable and secure components.
The position requires effective communication with stakeholders and engagement with thought leaders in the GraphQL ecosystem.
Requirements:
Candidates must have experience designing, building, and operating high-scale distributed systems.
A background in API design, platforms, or frameworks is required.
A strong product and customer mindset with a track record of delivering meaningful impact is essential.
The ability to make technical decisions considering long-term impact is necessary.
Successful collaboration across teams and building solid technical strategy is expected.
Candidates should possess sound judgment in balancing technical debt, innovation, and business priorities.
Effective communication skills with various audiences, including executives, customers, and engineers, are required.
Valued but not required skills include mentoring senior engineers, familiarity with GraphQL and Federation architecture, and understanding software development lifecycle models.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $242,250 - $306,375 per year, along with equity and benefits.

This is a fully remote position, allowing work from anywhere in the US or Canada.
