Description:

  • Nava is a consultancy and public benefit corporation focused on making government services simple, effective, and accessible to all.
  • The Principal Software Engineer (FHIR) will serve as a vital bridge between Nava, technical experts, external developers, and clients.
  • This role involves driving the overall strategy and architecture for FHIR-based software services within major federal agencies.
  • Responsibilities include working with software engineers to understand FHIR objects and relationships, crafting long-term strategic roadmaps, and actively participating in HL7 and related standards bodies.
  • The engineer will develop a deep understanding of the developer user space, prototype new features, and collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams.
  • The role also includes reviewing and improving user documentation and taking on software engineering tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have current and/or prior experience developing API endpoints with Kotlin, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment is required, preferably in designing and building medium to large-scale web applications on Cloud Platforms.
  • Strong experience in the healthcare industry, particularly with HL7/FHIR standards, is essential.
  • Experience utilizing Smart on FHIR standards to build healthcare applications is necessary.
  • Candidates should possess tenacity to dive into problems and iterate in working code.
  • The ideal candidate will be a systems thinker, software engineer, and overall evangelist.
  • Strong resourcefulness, reliability, and attention to detail are required.
  • Candidates must have the ability to think strategically about trade-offs and benefits.
  • An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, and positive mindset is essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
