Description:

The Principal Software Engineer will work in the Content Pillar, driving large-scale architectural initiatives for a next-generation content management platform.
Responsibilities include tackling complex technical challenges such as decoupling monolithic systems, scaling services, and leading multi-system integrations.
The role involves collaboration with senior engineering leaders and guiding high-impact projects across multiple teams and services.
The engineer will integrate content management into Smartsheet’s project collaboration tools to enhance user experience and team outcomes.
This position is suitable for an experienced engineer passionate about architectural transformation and problem-solving.
The engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and can work remotely from anywhere in the US.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 10+ years of software development experience in designing highly scalable and available systems.
A minimum of 7+ years of programming experience with full stack technologies such as Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript is required.
Applicants should have 5+ years of experience in building and scaling databases and data models.
At least 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) is necessary.
Proven success in decoupling monolithic systems and managing multi-system integrations is essential.
Candidates should have 7+ years of experience in SaaS application development and modern web technologies.
Experience with large-scale deployments and ensuring high availability is required.
A strong understanding of asynchronous code and designing systems for multi-service communication is needed.
A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) is mandatory.
Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.
