Description:
This is a full-time remote position, and candidates must be located in Spain.
The Asserts.ai team, part of Grafana Labs, is responsible for building and operating low-latency microservices in Java and databases like Graph DB.
The services provide automated Root Cause Insights by querying Grafana Cloud Metrics, Traces, and Logs databases.
The Asserts services are multi-tenant, highly available, and process/store data in Graph and Time Series DB.
The team is looking for a principal level engineer with a strong distributed systems background to lead backend initiatives.
Responsibilities include driving technical and business strategy, influencing the product roadmap, and driving system design.
The engineer will work with the team to deliver new features and improve them based on results.
The role involves building and operating critical systems, owning their reliability, performance, and availability, and participating in on-call rotations.
Mentoring and supporting team members is also a key responsibility.
The engineer will strive to become a subject matter expert for observability products and systems.
Requirements:
Candidates must be motivated self-starters with a bias towards action.
A customer-focused mindset is essential, with a passion for creating intuitive products.
Experience in delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping products is required.
Candidates should have experience in building and deploying SaaS software on cloud providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong experience in Java programming and building/deploying Java-based microservices is necessary.
Experience with Kubernetes is required.
Candidates must have been responsible for operating production services and participating in on-call rotations.
Active mentoring of team members and sharing knowledge through blog posts or tech talks is expected.
A curiosity for learning new programming languages and frameworks is important.
Nice to have: Experience as a power user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles.

In Spain, the base compensation range for this role is EUR 100,556 - EUR 120,667, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
