Remote Principal Software Engineer - OpenTelemetry Instrumentation (Remote, Sweden)

Description:

• Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana, allowing customers to utilize open source observability software without the overhead of managing their own stack.
• The Observability department focuses on enabling developers to understand the health and performance of their applications and infrastructure by providing tools for code instrumentation and data visualization.
• The OpenTelemetry instrumentation team aims to assist users in instrumenting their applications with OpenTelemetry, collaborating closely with OpenTelemetry SIGs to enhance SDKs and instrumentation libraries.
• As a Principal Software Engineer, you will have a leadership role with director-level scope and technical depth, contributing to open-source communities and the OpenTelemetry specification across various programming languages.
• You will support and lead the technical direction of the team and engage in business conversations regarding OpenTelemetry strategy at Grafana Labs.
• You are expected to be visible as an OpenTelemetry expert, teaching others and promoting best practices within Grafana Labs and the broader community.
• The role requires good communication skills and an independent attitude, as the engineering organization is largely remote.

Requirements:

• You must demonstrate the ability to take ownership and drive technical and business conversations at a director-level scope.
• A passion for observability and a willingness to share knowledge through documentation and blog posts is essential.
• Excellent communication skills and a desire to engage with customers are required.
• Relevant open source experience, ideally in OpenTelemetry or Prometheus, is necessary.
• You should be willing to actively participate in the OpenTelemetry community.
• Curiosity and enjoyment in learning new programming languages and frameworks, as well as setting up examples, are important traits.
• A good understanding of typical production environments is required, with experience in operating production services and organizing on-call responsibilities being ideal.
• You should actively mentor other team members, identifying areas for focus and improvement.
