Description:

  • The company builds software for Airbnbs to enable hosts to rent their properties themselves, focusing on a state-of-the-art product and user experience.
  • The Direct product allows short-term rental hosts to launch their direct bookings quickly with a pre-populated website.
  • Direct processes approximately $3M in monthly bookings, with plans to triple that in the next year.
  • The role involves working with a team of software engineers and support specialists to evolve the Direct product and establish it as a market leader.
  • Responsibilities include partnering with various teams to develop and ship features, iterating on launched features based on customer feedback, and creatively solving issues within a complex system.
  • The team operates within a "majestic" monolithic codebase and a few micro-services, utilizing a Kubernetes-powered infrastructure-as-code stack.
  • The tech stack includes PHP, Angular, Laravel, MySQL, and Beanstalk.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should have 3+ years of software engineering experience, particularly in backend development.
  • Significant experience with Laravel, PHP 8.1+, MySQL, and testing pipelines in a deployed web application is required.
  • A 'shipping' mentality is essential, with a focus on customer feedback and iterative improvement.
  • Exceptional written communication skills are necessary due to the remote-first nature of the company.
  • Candidates should possess an eye for testable, maintainable, and intuitive code while prioritizing customer and business value.
  • The ability to think through complex systems and non-obvious usage scenarios is important.
  • High empathy towards customers and teammates is required.
  • Self-motivation and decision-making skills in uncertain situations are essential.
  • Experience with query optimization and queue/job-centric backends is a plus.
  • Experience in support engineering and stakeholder communication is beneficial.
