Remote Senior Android Engineer

Description:

• Brightwheel is seeking an experienced Senior Android Engineer to join the mobile team.
• The role involves maintaining and improving mobile platform architecture while collaborating with other Product Engineering teams to build user-facing products and features.
• Responsibilities include designing and developing software solutions for medium-to-large product engineering projects, shipping software that matters to customers and the company.
• The engineer will collaborate closely with product managers and designers to shape and define features, balancing technical concerns, business goals, and user impact.
• The position requires serving as the steward for customer experience by proactively identifying and diagnosing issues of quality, reliability, or performance, and rapidly deploying code to address these issues.
• The engineer will improve engineering velocity by implementing best practices and frameworks, enhancing coding efficiency and quality across the team.
• Data-driven decision-making is essential, as the engineer will analyze data insights to uncover opportunities for improving features or architecture.
• Promoting excellence in engineering processes and culture across teams is a key responsibility.
• The engineer will collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical functions across the company and promote technical learning.
• Mentoring peers and junior engineers, building trust and respect within the team, and interviewing candidates to help grow the engineering team are also part of the role.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 3-5+ years of professional experience in Android development within a fast-paced team setting.
• Advanced technical knowledge of the Android development stack, standard architectural patterns, and frameworks, including expertise in Kotlin and Java, is required.
• Familiarity with Compose is a plus.
• Candidates should be confident in onboarding themselves to projects and operating with minimal guidance, while knowing when to seek help.
• Comfort with consuming REST APIs is necessary.
• Proficiency with standard tools such as GitHub, Google PlayStore, Firebase, and analytics tools is expected.
• Familiarity with AWS and/or cloud-based web architectures is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a proven record of empathetic collaboration, are essential.
• Candidates should be self-starters who take initiative and leadership when needed, but are also comfortable delegating tasks.
• A deep care for work and awareness of how attitude affects others is important.
• Experience with various development and project methodologies, along with a drive for engineering process and culture improvements, is required.
• A passion for teaching and learning from peers is essential.

Benefits:

• The salary range for this position is $123,000 - $189,000 a year.
