Description:

The Muse is seeking an experienced Senior Back-End Engineer to join their remote engineering team.
The role involves building and maintaining scalable, distributed systems that power The Muse's platforms, which attract 70 million annual users.
The engineer will develop robust backend services to connect job seekers with meaningful career opportunities.
Responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable backend services and APIs, leading the development of data pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
The engineer will also architect and maintain distributed systems, implement data quality processes, mentor junior engineers, and participate in code reviews.
The position requires availability primarily during business hours of 9-5pm (GMT-5), with potential for additional hours for critical issues.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, focusing on backend development.
Strong proficiency in Python and experience with asynchronous programming is required.
Proven experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud is necessary.
A solid understanding of database technologies, particularly PostgreSQL, is essential.
Experience with containerization technologies, especially Docker, is required.
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, data structures, and algorithms, are necessary.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex systems are required.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, are essential.
Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional teams across different countries and time zones is required.
Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI) is necessary.

The estimated annual salary for this position is $100K USD, depending on seniority, experience, and location.
