Remote Senior Backend Developer (Core)

Description:

• The Senior Backend Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the backend services that power Paxful’s marketplace.
• This role focuses on high-performance systems and scalable architecture.
• The developer will primarily use PHP, with secondary contributions in Go and Node.js.
• Responsibilities include building and maintaining RESTful APIs that integrate with frontend, mobile, and blockchain systems.
• The developer will collaborate with product managers and other teams to define requirements and deliver new features.
• Ensuring backend services are scalable, secure, and optimized for high performance is essential.
• The role involves debugging and troubleshooting production issues to maintain platform reliability.
• The developer will contribute to migrating legacy PHP systems to modern architectures and service-based designs.
• Implementing and optimizing database queries for high availability and low latency is required.
• Writing robust unit and integration tests to maintain code quality is part of the job.
• The developer will contribute to the development of microservices using Go and Node.js as needed.
• Working closely with the DevOps team to deploy and monitor services using Kubernetes and Terraform is expected.
• Participation in peer code reviews and mentoring junior developers to promote best practices is encouraged.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 5+ years of backend development experience, with strong expertise in PHP (preferably PHP 7.4+).
• Familiarity with frameworks like Laravel or Symfony is required.
• Experience with Go and Node.js for developing microservices and handling event-driven systems is necessary.
• The ability to contribute across multiple languages as needed is essential.
• Proficiency in database management is required.
• Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL databases like MongoDB is necessary.
• Candidates must have experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Knowledge of API integration, versioning, and optimization is required.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows is necessary.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes is required.
• Understanding of secure backend development practices is essential.
• Familiarity with authentication mechanisms like OAuth, JWT, and API key management is necessary.
