Description:
Calm is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Engineering Team in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, or Minneapolis.
The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems that support Calm's mobile and web applications.
Responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, defining project scope, and developing technical specifications.
The engineer will lead the development and implementation of complex backend features and services, ensuring smooth development and deployment processes.
High-quality, well-documented, and maintainable code must be written, adhering to industry best practices.
The engineer will ensure high test coverage for all code, including unit and integration tests.
Instrumentation and monitoring will be implemented to detect system errors and performance issues.
Staying updated on the latest backend technologies and trends is essential.
The role also includes developing, mentoring, and training other software engineers.
Requirements:
Candidates must have experience with Javascript/Typescript, GoLang, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS/GCP/GKE.
Proficiency in relational databases and SQL is required.
Experience with REST API-based microservices design is necessary.
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment as part of a collaborative team is essential.
Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies and tackle challenging problems.
Experience in providing accurate high-level estimates based on complexity and consistently delivering on time and with quality is required.
Proficiency in writing unit and integration tests in a CI/CD environment is necessary.
Excellent communication skills are required to convey technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Candidates should be able to provide high-quality code reviews focused on code quality and mentoring.
The ability to partner with leads across products to leverage institutional knowledge to solve complex problems is essential.
Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
A minimum of 8 years of related experience and a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field are required.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $185,500 to $259,700, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
