Description:

  • HumanSignal is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their fully distributed organization.
  • The company builds software that aids in data labeling, believing that this process should involve human effort in guidance, orchestration, and feedback with AI knowledge sources.
  • The Senior Backend Engineer will collaborate with other engineers on new and existing features, participate in all aspects of the development process, and establish standards for style and best practices.
  • The role involves identifying areas of improvement in the code base, advocating for improvements, and providing leadership and mentorship to teammates.
  • The position offers the opportunity to work on a data labeling automation platform powered by GenAI and agents, contributing to democratizing everyone's ability to utilize these technologies.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in designing and building high-performance distributed backend systems supporting cloud SaaS applications.
  • Proficiency in building applications and services on public cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, with bonus points for experience in data or MLOps systems.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in building applications supported by REST APIs and web endpoint frameworks such as FastAPI and Django.
  • Production experience with languages like Python, Java, Go, Kotlin, Scala, or Rust.
  • Expert knowledge of databases like Postgres and data warehouse systems like BigQuery.
  • Proficiency in streaming event and messaging architectures like Spark, Beam, and Kafka.
  • Strong user empathy, product-value centric mindset, and a desire to understand and impact product metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills at a Senior Software Engineer Individual Contributor level, using TDDs, code reviews, presentations, and feedback.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
