Remote Senior Backend Engineer - Adaptive Telemetry (Remote, Canada)

Description:

• This is a remote position for a Senior Backend Engineer in the Adaptive Telemetry group at Grafana Labs, specifically for candidates in the Eastern timezone of Canada.
• Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform that integrates various observability software, allowing customers to manage their telemetry without the overhead of maintaining their own stack.
• The Databases department operates telemetry databases including Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles, offered as a Cloud service and on-premise solutions.
• The Adaptive Telemetry group ensures that all telemetry stored in databases is worthy of attention and is responsible for developing and iterating on Adaptive Metrics and Adaptive Logs.
• The role involves engaging in larger projects, performance and reliability improvements, writing and reviewing PRs and design documents, managing automated release rollouts, and participating in on-call rotations.
• Responsibilities include influencing the roadmap, delivering new features, driving projects from ideation to operations, designing and maintaining critical systems, mentoring team members, and learning about the cloud product and codebase.

• Candidates must be motivated self-starters with a customer-focused mindset and a passion for creating intuitive products.
• Candidates should possess pragmatism, able to break down complex challenges and deliver modular solutions iteratively.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as the team operates in a fully remote setup.
• Solid experience with at least one programming language is required; familiarity with Go, Python, C, C++, or Rust is preferred.
• Some experience in delivering projects from requirements gathering to product shipping is necessary.
• Candidates should have experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering.
• Experience working with microservices architectures and distributed systems is required.
• Candidates must demonstrate the ability to write clean, robust, and maintainable software.
