Description:
This is a remote position for a Senior Backend Engineer in the Adaptive Telemetry group at Grafana Labs, specifically for candidates in the Eastern timezone of Canada.
Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform that integrates various observability software, allowing customers to manage their telemetry without the overhead of maintaining their own stack.
The Databases department operates telemetry databases including Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles, offered as a Cloud service and on-premise solutions.
The Adaptive Telemetry group ensures that all telemetry stored in databases is worthy of attention and is responsible for developing and iterating on Adaptive Metrics and Adaptive Logs.
The role involves engaging in larger projects, performance and reliability improvements, writing and reviewing PRs and design documents, managing automated release rollouts, and participating in on-call rotations.
Responsibilities include influencing the roadmap, delivering new features, driving projects from ideation to operations, designing and maintaining critical systems, mentoring team members, and learning about the cloud product and codebase.
Requirements:
Candidates must be motivated self-starters with a customer-focused mindset and a passion for creating intuitive products.
Candidates should possess pragmatism, able to break down complex challenges and deliver modular solutions iteratively.
Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, as the team operates in a fully remote setup.
Solid experience with at least one programming language is required; familiarity with Go, Python, C, C++, or Rust is preferred.
Some experience in delivering projects from requirements gathering to product shipping is necessary.
Candidates should have experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering.
Experience working with microservices architectures and distributed systems is required.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to write clean, robust, and maintainable software.

The base compensation range for this role in Canada is CAD$153,000 - CAD$184,000, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
