Description:

The engineering team collaborates with product and design teams to develop high-quality, resilient, and accessible applications.
The Senior Backend Engineer will maintain and add new functionality to application servers that handle requests from client-facing applications.
This role will contribute to production codebases and test suites, working on endpoints that serve students, instructors, content writers, editors, and external partners.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining backend server applications, coordinating with the product team for client releases, and monitoring system health.
The engineer will collaborate with the larger engineering team to develop best practices and code style guidelines.
The role may involve rebuilding server infrastructure in a memory-safe language such as Go or Rust, depending on experience and interest.
Requirements:
A minimum of 4 years of backend development experience is required.
Strong knowledge of TypeScript and NodeJS for backend development is essential.
Experience in specifying and maintaining APIs for external consumption is necessary.
Proficiency in writing tests with Jest or similar frameworks is required.
Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases is needed.
Preferred qualifications include experience in delivering solutions in languages like Go or Rust, managing CI and deployment pipelines, and working on projects from ideation to release and maintenance.
Candidates should exhibit an engineer’s mindset, a desire to collaborate, humility, and comfort with being nimble and experimental in product development.
