Description:
Rune Labs is a software and data analytics company focused on precision neurology, particularly for Parkinson's disease.
The Senior Backend Engineer will work on the cloud platform that handles biometric data from various sources, including wearables and iOS apps.
Responsibilities include designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining software for the cloud platform, specifically APIs and distributed microservices.
The role involves sharing responsibility for production, ensuring infrastructure is automated, instrumented with observability, and follows strong security practices.
Mentoring and receiving feedback on feature design and code reviews is expected.
The engineer will balance short and long-term technical priorities by collaborating with Product, Project Managers, and other engineers to clarify project requirements.

Requirements:
Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience as a backend software engineer, specifically in building cloud-native applications on AWS.
Professional experience with Python or Go is required.
A proven track record of using unit and integration testing frameworks to ensure high test coverage is necessary.
Direct experience with at least one of the following is required: GraphQL, RESTful, or gRPC APIs; ETL pipelines; relational and NoSQL databases; asynchronous/job-based execution; handling sensitive data; storing and querying time series data; or building/deploying ML models.
Strong attention to detail is essential due to the complexity of the data ingested.
Candidates should be comfortable collaborating outside of engineering and making software concepts accessible to non-engineers.
Code must be well-commented, structured, readable, and maintainable.
A strong belief in automated testing and diligence in monitoring features and services in production is expected.
Candidates should be eager to help teammates and willing to ask for help when needed.
Comfort in working on a remote team distributed across time zones in North America is required.
Candidates must reside and be authorized to work in the U.S. or Canada.
Benefits:
The salary range for U.S.-based employees is $155,000 - $185,000 (USD) plus equity, while for Canada-based employees, it is $140,000 - $195,000 (CAD) plus equity.
