Description:

The position is for a Senior Backend Engineer focused on databases at Tempo, a remote role available to candidates in Spain, Germany, Sweden, or the UK.
Tempo is an open-source distributed tracing backend that is user-friendly, scalable, and a key component of Grafana Enterprise Traces.
The team is responsible for creating and operating distributed systems for tracing ingestion and queries, developing TraceQL, and building the metrics-generator.
Responsibilities include collaborating with the team to deliver new features, leading projects from concept to implementation, and ensuring system reliability and performance.
The role involves participating in on-call rotations, mentoring team members, and expanding knowledge of cloud products and the codebase.

Requirements:

Candidates must have solid experience with at least one programming language, preferably Go, but familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar is acceptable.
Experience in delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping products in a self-driven manner is required.
Candidates should have experience with software development in the Cloud or systems engineering.
Proficiency in writing clean, robust, and maintainable software is necessary.
Familiarity with on-call responsibilities and operations/SRE tasks or infrastructure as code is expected.
Nice to have: experience with Kubernetes, usage of Grafana and Prometheus, exposure to microservices architecture, and experience in a fully remote environment.

The base compensation range for this role in the UK is GBP 84,000 - GBP 101,000, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
