The position is for a Senior Backend Engineer focused on databases at Tempo, a remote role available for candidates in Sweden or Spain.
Tempo is an open-source distributed tracing backend that is user-friendly, scalable, and a key component of Grafana Enterprise Traces.
The team is responsible for creating and operating distributed systems for tracing ingestion and queries, developing TraceQL, and building the metrics-generator.
Responsibilities include collaborating with the team to deliver new features, leading projects from concept to implementation, and ensuring system reliability and performance.
The role involves participating in on-call rotations, mentoring team members, and expanding knowledge of cloud products and the codebase.

Candidates must have solid experience with at least one programming language, preferably Go, but familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar is acceptable.

Experience in writing clean, robust, and maintainable software is essential.
Nice to haves include experience with Kubernetes, using Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles, exposure to microservices architecture, and familiarity with on-call operations or infrastructure as code.

The base compensation range for this role in Sweden is SEK 738,518 - SEK 923,148, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
