The Senior Backend Engineer will build and extend Tala’s backend architecture to support new country launches, new features, and a fast-growing user base.
Responsibilities include developing, testing, and deploying software solutions using Java, Scala, or Kotlin, and designing backend systems while making key architectural decisions.
The role also involves ensuring code quality through best practices and code reviews, maintaining technical documentation, and participating in problem-solving for production issues.
There is a potential opportunity to mentor junior engineers.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 5+ years of professional software development experience.
Expertise in at least one of the following programming languages is required: Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
A solid understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices is necessary.
Experience with REST or gRPC APIs is required.
Proficiency in CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, or sbt is essential.
Candidates should have experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker or Kubernetes.
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and deploying services at the infrastructure level is also required.
