Remote Senior Backend Engineer

Description:

• As a Senior Backend Engineer at Zowie, you will join a rapidly expanding Product Engineering team and play a crucial role as the 7th-10th backend engineer.
• You will work on a sophisticated system consisting of over 100 microservices, primarily coded in Scala, that communicate synchronously through gRPC, handle asynchronous calls via Kafka, expose GraphQL to the frontend, and use databases like PostgreSQL, Mongo, ElasticSearch, or Redis.
• The engineering ethos at Zowie focuses on the tangible impact on users, empowering engineers to contribute not only to code but also to strategic decisions shaping the product.
• You will have autonomy to propose enhancements, influence architecture decisions, and provide valuable insights to guide the best course of action.
• Collaboration with fellow engineers, regular planning sessions, standups, and code reviews are part of the daily routine at Zowie.
• The team values efficiency and continuous improvement, with a focus on retrospectives and adapting to changing needs.

Requirements:

• Excellent coding skills and a passion for continuous learning and growth.
• 5+ years of experience with JVM languages.
• Willingness to further develop expertise within the Scala and Java tech stack.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical issues in simple business and product terms.
• Excellent system design skills for wise technology and architecture choices.
• Experience with Distributed systems.
• Product acumen, ownership mindset, and focus on delivering value to customers.
• Working proficiency in both English and Polish (spoken and written).
