Remote Senior Backend Engineer - Grafana Ops, Alerting (Remote, US/Canada)

Description:

• The Grafana Alerting squad operates at the core of the Grafana open-source project, focusing on providing users with in-depth alert management.
• The backend-focused team collaborates closely with customers and Grafana Cloud teams to ensure alerting works on-prem and at infinite scale in the Cloud.
• Recent projects include building distributed systems for scaling alert ingestion and delivery of Prometheus-based alerts, unifying alerting setup for Grafana and Prometheus-based alerts, and scaling alert evaluation of Grafana-managed alerts to over 500 evaluations per second in production.
• The team is trusted by major organizations worldwide, monitoring essential medical devices and critical infrastructure.
• Team members are encouraged to contribute ideas that shape the product into a dependable tool.
• Responsibilities include influencing the roadmap, delivering new features, driving projects from ideation to operations, contributing to open-source culture, designing and maintaining critical systems, participating in on-call rotations, mentoring team members, and learning new skills.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have solid experience with at least one programming language, preferably Go, but familiarity with Python, Java, C++, Rust, or similar languages is acceptable.
• Some experience in delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping products in a self-driven manner is required.
• Candidates should have experience with developing software that runs in the Cloud or systems engineering.
• Experience in writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others is necessary.
• Nice to haves include experience with Kubernetes, being a user of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles, exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, and familiarity with being on-call or infrastructure as code.

• The base compensation range for this role in Canada is CAD 146,000 - CAD 183,011, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
