Remote Senior Backend Engineer, Hierarchy

Description:

• ClickUp is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Hierarchy Squad, responsible for building and optimizing tier 1 services at the core of ClickUp’s productivity platform.
• The role involves maintaining, developing, and scaling high throughput services to support the company's growth.
• The ideal candidate will architect reliable and high-performing distributed systems, debug complex code, and maintain a platform integrated by all teams in the company.
• Key technologies include Typescript, Postgres, Kafka, and NestJS running on Amazon Web Services.
• Responsibilities include building features and systems with attention to detail and performance, owning end-to-end development from conception to production, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, identifying and implementing system improvements, and helping to establish a positive engineering culture.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.
• Candidates must have 5+ years of experience engineering performant and high-throughput systems, ideally using Node.js.
• Proficiency in writing high-quality code, preferably in TypeScript, is essential.
• A proven track record of building performant, high-throughput systems is necessary.
• Experience in writing and debugging SQL queries at scale is required.
• Candidates should have experience developing event-based systems and familiarity with major cloud services, ideally AWS.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity while delivering projects with minimal direction are important.
• A product-minded approach with a good intuition for user experience is also required.
