Description:
FilmFreeway is seeking a Senior Ruby Engineer to build and optimize user-focused products for the film industry.
The engineering team consists of two members who value independence and autonomy.
The team adheres to agile principles with a modified Kanban process, using Jira for task management.
Responsibilities include feature development, production reliability, infrastructure maintenance, upgrades, tooling, bug fixing, and troubleshooting.
The role involves collaborating with product and customer support teams to design and architect new features.
The Senior Ruby Engineer will guide technical decisions and provide code reviews.
The position reports to FilmFreeway’s General Manager.
Requirements:
Candidates must have demonstrated prior experience leading feature development and shipping software in a professional team setting.
Strong project management skills are required, including the ability to create timelines, prioritize tasks, and communicate with stakeholders.
Familiarity with project management software such as JIRA is necessary.
A minimum of 8 years of experience working with Ruby on Rails is required.
Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to create and improve well-architected, readable code that conforms to established best practices and RESTful principles.
Deep knowledge of the standard Ruby library is essential.
Experience upgrading Ruby on Rails between major versions is required.
A minimum of 4 years of experience using ReactJS or a comparable frontend framework is necessary.
Knowledge of responsive styling using CSS and preprocessors like SCSS and SASS is required.
Experience with ElasticSearch, caching solutions like Memcached and Redis, and integrating with third-party payment solutions such as Stripe, PayPal, and Dwolla is necessary.
Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, including security and deployment best practices, is required.
Experience managing Linux servers and provisioning systems using Ansible is necessary.
Candidates should have experience monitoring and managing the WAF firewall and network optimization through Cloudflare.
Experience creating small utilities through AWS lambda or Cloudflare workers is required.
Ability to implement automated testing of code, particularly integration testing via Selenium / Capybara, is necessary.
Competency working with relational databases and experience designing database schema in relation to Ruby on Rails / ActiveRecord is required.
Familiarity with mass email systems such as Sendgrid and experience writing both client and server-side JavaScript is necessary.
