Description:
Kickstarter is seeking an experienced Senior Data & Analytics Engineer II to join the Insights team.
The role involves modernizing the data stack, building scalable and cost-efficient pipelines, and enabling deeper insights across the organization.
Responsibilities include developing and improving Kickstarter’s data architecture, optimizing the Redshift warehouse, and implementing best practices for data storage, processing, and orchestration.
The engineer will design and build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to transform raw data into clean datasets for analytics, product insights, and machine learning applications.
Enhancing data accessibility and self-service analytics by improving Looker models and promoting organizational data literacy is also a key responsibility.
The role supports real-time data needs by optimizing event-based telemetry and integrating new data streams for various applications.
Cost optimization efforts will be led by identifying and implementing more efficient processes and tools.
The engineer will drive data governance and security best practices to ensure data integrity and proper lineage tracking.
Collaboration across teams is essential to align data solutions with product, growth, and business intelligence needs.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related fields.
Strong experience with cloud-based data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery, along with query performance optimization, is required.
Expertise in SQL, Python, and data transformation frameworks like dbt is necessary.
Experience in building scalable data pipelines with modern orchestration tools such as Airflow, MWAA, or Dagster is essential.
Knowledge of real-time streaming architectures like Kafka or Kinesis and event-based telemetry best practices is required.
Experience working with business intelligence tools, particularly Looker, and enabling self-serve analytics is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to drive cost-efficient and scalable data solutions while balancing performance with resource management.
Familiarity with machine learning operations (MLOps) and experimentation tooling is a plus.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential, with the ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
