Description:

  • As a Senior Data Engineer at Oportun, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated software and data platforms.
  • You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, efficient, and robust data architectures to meet business needs and analytical requirements.
  • Your role includes collaborating with stakeholders to understand data requirements and defining optimal data models and structures.
  • You will design and develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • You will oversee the management and maintenance of databases, data warehouses, and data lakes to ensure high performance and data integrity.
  • Establishing and enforcing data quality standards and governance practices will be part of your responsibilities.
  • You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and business stakeholders, is essential to deliver solutions that meet their data needs.
  • You will implement monitoring systems to track data pipeline performance and optimize for improved efficiency and scalability.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required.
  • You must have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on data architecture, ETL, and database management.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python/PySpark and Java or Scala is necessary.
  • Expertise in big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and experience with various database technologies, including PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases, is essential.
  • Experience in building complex end-to-end data pipelines is required.
  • Familiarity with orchestration and designing job schedules using CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Airflow, or Databricks is necessary.
  • You should be able to work in an Agile environment (Scrum, Lean, Kanban).
  • The ability to mentor junior team members is required.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services is necessary.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities are required.
  • Familiarity or certification in Databricks is a plus.
