Description:

As a Senior Data Engineer at Oportun, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated software and data platforms.
You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, efficient, and robust data architectures to meet business needs and analytical requirements.
Your role includes collaborating with stakeholders to understand data requirements and defining optimal data models and structures.
You will design and develop data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
You will oversee the management and maintenance of databases, data warehouses, and data lakes to ensure high performance and data integrity.
Establishing and enforcing data quality standards and governance practices will be part of your responsibilities.
You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members and participate in code reviews.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and business stakeholders, is essential to deliver solutions that meet their data needs.
You will implement monitoring systems to track data pipeline performance and optimize for improved efficiency and scalability.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required.
You must have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on data architecture, ETL, and database management.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python/PySpark and Java or Scala is necessary.
Expertise in big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka is required.
In-depth knowledge of SQL and experience with various database technologies, including PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases, is essential.
Experience in building complex end-to-end data pipelines is required.
Familiarity with orchestration and designing job schedules using CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Airflow, or Databricks is necessary.
You should be able to work in an Agile environment (Scrum, Lean, Kanban).
The ability to mentor junior team members is required.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services is necessary.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities are required.
Familiarity or certification in Databricks is a plus.
