Description:

  • Join the Knowledge Representation Team at BenchSci as a Senior Data Engineer in London, England.
  • Report to the Engineering Manager and work on evolving BenchSci’s Knowledge Graph by integrating public life science data into the biological ontology.
  • Iterate on data models in various data stores, including graph DB, and enhance internal tooling for data self-service.
  • Operationalize production-grade data pipelines and collaborate with a world-class team to apply data engineering solutions for scientific discovery.
  • Scale data pipelines for quick and reliable data transfer from research to platform.
  • Manage sources with semi-structured and unstructured biological data to contribute to the Knowledge Graph.
  • Collaborate with ML, Data engineers, and Science to solve complex data mining challenges.
  • Design scalable solutions using the latest frameworks and tools in a cloud-based environment.
  • Contribute to engineering design proposals, team processes, and code review.
  • Work independently and in pair-programming settings within an agile team to solve data problems.
  • Liaise with stakeholders from other functions like product and science for continuous growth and learning opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Have 5+ years of experience as a professional data engineer.
  • Proficient in Python coding and type system.
  • Skilled in writing SQL (GQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery are a plus).
  • Experience in building batch and streaming ETL pipelines using data processing engines.
  • Familiarity with cloud development (GCP and Terraform) and data modeling.
  • Possess strong communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in agile processes and executing as part of high-performance engineering teams.
  • Ideally, have worked in the scientific/biological domain and have a growth mindset.
