Remote Senior Data Engineer

Description:

• The Senior Data Engineer at Ringier South Africa will be responsible for suggesting efficiencies and implementing internal process improvements in automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and enhancing technology scalability.
• They will work on implementing enhancements and new features across data systems, streamlining processes, and conducting unit tests on data pipelines to ensure data consistency.
• The role involves assembling large, complex data sets, developing and maintaining automated monitoring solutions, supporting reporting and analytics infrastructure, and ensuring data quality and governance.
• The Senior Data Engineer will maintain data warehouse and data lake metadata, data catalogue, and user documentation, while upkeeping overall maintenance of data infrastructure systems.
• Best practices in database management, including collations, database engines, and indices, will be implemented and maintained by the Senior Data Engineer.

Requirements:

• BSc degree in Computer Science/information systems/Engineering or related technical field or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of related work experience with a minimum of 2 years experience in building and optimizing 'big data' data pipelines, architectures, and maintaining data sets.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL (PostgreSQL, MS SQL), and cloud services like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience in version control, CI/CD, and Github, with an understanding/experience in Glue and PySpark highly desirable.
• Ability to manipulate, process, and architect large disconnected data sets for analytical requirements.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good communication and interpersonal skills.
